Any company operating a Commercial Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 10,001 pounds or more for cargo transportation, or with 9 or more passengers for interstate (cross-state) commerce, needs to obtain a USDOT number. Additionally, carriers operating intrastate and hauling hazardous materials that require safety permits must also acquire a USDOT number. This is an annual Federal Road Tax for crossing state lines. The filing is automatically attached to your DOT Number and must be renewed annually. This registration expires on December 31st of each year. According to the UCR, the fee is dependent on fleet size. The price listed covers this cost.
Because you are going to be crossing state lines (or are in a "qualified state") you are required to have Driver Qualification Files per DOT Regulation 49 CFR 391. This is about a 30-page legal document that includes background information, including a Motor Vehicle Report, Background Investigation and Investigation of previous employers. Once your DRIVER QUESTIONNAIRES are completed, we will upload this document to your mobile app. . We recommend keeping a copy at the business address on the application. The cost associated with having this Driver Qualification File created is $199.00 per driver. This document is valid for 12 months, the renewal cost is $159. The Driver Files will be required to pass your Department of Transportation Safety Audit. Note: Company Owners are required to have a complete DQF as well.

This is a lifetime registration. The clearinghouse is a secure online database that allows FMCSA, CMV employers, State Driver Licensing Agencies, and law enforcement officials to identify – in real-time – CDL drivers who have violated federal drug and alcohol testing program requirements. All CDL businesses and drivers must be registered prior to operating.

If you will be operating a CDL required vehicle (or go over the 26,001 LBS GVW) you are required to be enrolled in the Drug & Alcohol Consortium per DOT Regulation 49 CFR 382. Anyone who has registered or is required to register a heavy highway motor vehicle with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more in their name at the time of first use on the public highways during the reporting period must file Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return. Carriers must pay this Tax prior to receiving commercial license plates. This Tax is prorated & the IRS will determine the amount of tax due upon filing.

  • New York Highway Use Tax (NYHUT): Because your vehicle is 18,001lbs GVW or over either based in New York or crossing the state lines you are required to file a New York Heavy Use Tax (NYHUT).
  • New Mexico Weight Distance Tax (NM WDT): Because your vehicle is 26,001lbs GVW or over either based in New Mexico or crossing the state lines you are required to file a New Mexico Weight and Distance Tax.
  • Kentucky Heavy Use Tax (KYU): Because your vehicle is 59,999lbs GVW or over either based in Kentucky or crossing the state lines you are required to file a Kentucky Heavy Use Tax (KYU).
